George was a third-grade student of the 14th High School in Wrocław. His passions were hockey in the winter and cycling in the summer. He liked science subjects.
Unfortunately, as a result of a traffic accident on October 20, 2012, George suffered a Diffuse axonal injury (DAI) and fell into a coma. Apart from internal brain injuries, there are no significant injuries to the body. Currently, George is conscious, but has huge neurological deficits, both physical and intellectual (mainly lack of short-term memory).
Each injury of this kind is different, but all require long-term rehabilitation. Regaining fitness is the result of rehabilitation, but at the same time is restricted by the injuries sustained.
George's rehabilitation is paid for with funds from his account in the Lower Silesian Health Foundation. Funds collected on this account are issued on the basis of bills for treatment and rehabilitation. Medical services provided by the NFZ (national healthcare funds) are insufficient, and our personal funds are limited.
Currently, George lives in his family home and we make every effort to help him return to greater physical and intellectual fitness. A stay at home and a wide range of rehabilitation is now the only possibility of his recovery. We also hope that medicine will make further progress in the treatment of brain damage over the coming years, providing us with novel therapies.
Since we have experienced the return of George from DAI, we provide assistance to others by sharing advice and experiences, gathered both in the initial period of the disease and years of rehabilitation. If you have a similar problem, write us an e-mail (epik22 at gmail.com) and we can share the information we have.
At the same time, we are looking for new therapies and new treatments for DAI by tracking available publications. If there is any new experimental treatment program, share this knowledge with us. George’s hope for health is the progress of medicine.
Currently George, in addition to physiotherapy, is subjected to HBOT sessions, magnetotherapy, swimming classes, and attempts to ride a stationary bike. We have now taken experimental therapy of small doses of stem cells administered by a qualified team of neurologists.
We are not a very wealthy family and if you want to share and support George's rehabilitation and treatment even with small amounts, we will be grateful.
